The Cold War and the 1950's
The 1950's marked the beginning of quite a remarkable generation: the Baby Boomers. These children who were born post the Second World War were exposed to an ongoing battle against Communism and nuclear threats for nearly forty years.
The Baby Boomers have truly redefined America’s culture in the 1950s and 1960s. This generation came of age in an unprecedented period of economic growth and was the main contribution to the questioning of our government, economy and culture in America. Young men, women, Native Americans, and African Americans all came together to spearhead political and social uprisings that occurred during this decade. The movements act as a turning point separating the conformist 1950s from what would be the tumultuous 1960s. Driving the force of the movements are these Baby Boomers; a youthful generation calling America a land of inequality. More activist than almost any generation before them, these youths changed their world to make up one of the most influential generations in American History.
It all began with the Cold War...
